Migration of the Sign: Fall Exhibition in Wynwood Arts District

Time for art

Swerdlow Art Group, in collaboration with Osel Art Group, is pleased to announce its Fall 2016 exhibition: Migration of the Sign, featuring the works of Sergio Payares and Maximo Caminero.  This marks the gallery’s second exhibition of the artists’ works. The opening reception will take place from 6-9p.m. on Friday, October 7th, 2016, at Røstad Edwards Gallery, 97 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL 33127.

Migration of the Sign explores the dynamics of artistic productions and migration, questioning what migrates in a painting and what defines alterity during the process. This exhibition provides an opportunity to experience the interference and the fading of the sign through the blurring, changing and transferring of codes, leading to a new approach to image making in which the fluctuation of the imaginary transcends the pictorial space. Twenty works spanning the last decade of the artists’ practices will be presented to the public for the first time.

Migration of the Sign is neither about exclusion nor estrangement, but is rather a site for non-submission…a reflecting mirror,” said Nick Swerdlow, founder and director of Swerdlow Art Group. “It allows the artists to send back to society the image of itself.”

Sergio Payares and Maximo Caminero’s works examine the issues surrounding migration and artistic practice, and the collection of paintings presented in this exhibition illustrate how creation transcends both immediate space and environment. Space and time appear in the works by the artists as both inclusive and exclusive, making the aesthetic form a hybrid and ambiguous entity.

Migration of the Sign will run through November 18th, 2016, and is open to the public. For more information, please call 305.753.9521 or visit SwerdlowArtGroup.
